It's that time of year again in which the cherries on the trees turn from green to red, and harvest is in full swing once more. As you can see in the photo, not all cherries ripen at the same time, hence harvest is done in several picking rounds, with the harvesting period normally lasting from October till February. This year, however, due to the heavy rains in October, the harvest in some regions has only just been kicked off. We now hope for dry, sunny weather so the beans can dry well.

Every year in January or February, when the plum trees blossom, the air at the E&D Farm is filled with the twittering of little Japanese white-eyes. They stay just as long as the flowers bloom before the flocks move on, but while they are there, their chirping and bustling around in the trees is a joy to watch.
When looking for this week's photo, my husband remarked that there hadn't been many coffee related photos so far, so off I went looking for one. They turned out to be few and far between. This week's photo comes close: it was taken at the E&D Farm near Jinghong, though I apparently was more intrigued by the sunrise than I was by the seedlings under the black canvas at the bottom of the photo.
This photo was just a quick snapshot of the harvest at the E&D Farm back when we had just arrived in China. It was one of those times when you press the shutter at just the right time, and with the right dose of luck, you frame one of those precious moments. To date it still is one of my favourite photos.

Whereas I have a passion for coffee, my wife has a passion for photography. Our years abroad have been documented in countless photos. Some of them just snapshots, others with a story behind them. Once a week we pick one we would like to share with you. Archives
